Weekly Update March 27 - March 31

Upcoming Schedule


FYI: this Monday 3.27.17 I will be away from our class due to my annual firefighter training


PBL: If you would like to donate any supplies such as glue, large cardboard boxes, tinfoil, Foamcore, sandpaper, Balsa wood, we'd appreciate it. 


Saturday April 1st: Tiny Home barn raising. Everyone is welcome to come and watch from 10-12. Students must be accompanied by an adult. Please be aware that BayArea NBC and the Milpitas Post will be there to report this event. 


We have three more field trips coming up:


Wednesday, April 5: We are going to Coyote Hills in Fremont. The flyer and permission slip are going home today. Please sign and return money and permission slips by next Friday 3.27.17. If you are interested in chaperoning, please return the bottom blue portion of the information half sheet. Please pack a bag lunch/water. There will be a bin to hold their lunch but students will be carrying their water bottle, so a small pack would be good to carry their water bottles.


Wednesday, April 19: We will be going to the Tide Pools, Half Moon Bay, Pillar Point. Student will need to be here at school by 7:20 am, so we can get on the bus by 7:45- 8:00 at the latest, and returning around 2pm. Students will need to pack a bag lunch/water. We will be walking in water so be prepared to get wet. More information will be coming out soon. Permission and chaperone slips will coming home soon.


Tentative Field trip: May 25th: Geology: If These Rocks Could Talk, Del Valle Park in Livermore. More Information to come as I receive it. 


For your Information: Please be aware of your students email. Today we were told that a chain letter was sent out to some students. I have talk about this issue this with our students. Please be participatory on your child's email discussions. If you become aware of any suspicious activity please let me know. 


Music presentation: You are invited to Room 29's flute practice. On March 29, in room 29 from 8:10am to 8:40am our students will perform what they have learned in music class. You will see how our student practice their music lessons. Please join me in celebrating their success. 


Yearbooks: If you are interested in ordering yearbooks now is the time! Order online, (school #19304),   



San Jose Area Writing Project: Last Friday I sent home a flyer about a writers workshop. This Saturday at San Jose State there will be a workshop for students. If you are interested in having your students practice writing techniques please visit their web-site and sign up


Sinnott Art Contest: If students are interested in participating, please submit original art work to Room 8, Mrs. Barber, by March 20. A flyer will go home tomorrow with all the details. Students art work must have their name, teachers name, and room number written clearly. 


Field Trips:


March 30th - Field Trip - Early to Rise: Children work and play in early San Jose. Mrs. Perkins and our class will be going on a field trip to a local historical site. The cost is $20, the buss will pick us up around 10:30am and will be back by 2pm for dismissal. I am sending a permission slip home today 3.2.17. The money is do by 3.10.17, if writing a check please make it payable to MUSD. 


Tide Pool: April 19th, Half Moon Bay Pillar Point. We will be exploring tide pools and the sea creatures that live there! We will be leaving from the school at 8am and will return around 2:30. Keeps your eyes our for more information to head your way soon! 

Box Tops - Please support our class in collecting Box Tops this school year.


Homework: I have students copy the daily homework into their daily planner and I sign it everyday to indicate they have acknowledged what they need to complete. Please check their planners nightly and sign above my signature to indicate to me that you have also checked their work. If the homework is not turned in or is incomplete I will send home Pink slips. If you do receive one please sign and return it back to me. Returning the pink slips is the students responsibility. 


Parent Volunteers: If you would like to become a parent volunteer for Room 29 please go to the office for the TB and Finger print paper work. I encourage parents to participate in their child's learning either in school, at home, and on field trips. IF you have already filled out all the paper work and are cleared, please email me your availability to help out with class projects, coping, and field trips. Please specify the activities you are able to participate in.


Library: The library is open.  Our Library time is on Friday's, please have students return all books. Thank you.


Birthdays: As a class policy I like to celebrate all birthdays at the end of each month. Please bring healthy snacks at the end of the day or with your child so they may hand out snack for the first recess. Please sign in at the office if you are arriving at the end of the day around 30 minutes before school is out.


PE: Our P.E. schedule will be Tuesday and Thursday from 8 to 8:45. Please make sure students wear closed-toe shoes on these days.
