Thank you Parents!

I want to thank ALL of you for taking the time to sign the students' planners, Reading is Cool logs, Monday folders, and tests.  I know it takes time and your time is valuable.  Your taking the time to review the students' work and have conversations with them about what they're learning at school is the CRITICAL link between home and school that motivates them to do well.

Special thanks to parents' contributions to our class' supplies, art, and field trip fund.

Scholastic Book Orders

Scholastic Book Orders are submitted at least once a month.

Please either order online or use the paper form your child brought home.

For online purchases, please go to

Every order through Scholastic earns Rm. 23 new books, especially in the first order of the school year.  Even if you usually do not order books via Scholastic, please consider making 1 purchase in August-September, when they give classrooms the most points.   Every order in August/Sept will receive a double sided poster (Marvel heroes / Inside Out characters).  J3DWB is our classroom code that must be used with online orders.

Updated Oct. 2016: new website to look up Reading Counts Quiz points! And Mobile device App link

Go to Scholastic's website at and look up a book by title or author.  Then check if there is 'SRC points' listed for that book.  Only if there is SRC points that a book will have a QUIZ.  Some books have a LEXILE, but no Quiz (that means NO Reading Counts points).

**NEW:  Download the FREE Scholastic App onto your I-Phone, I-Pad, or Android devices to Quickly lookup a book's Lexile level.  It uses scanning, voice, or type search to do the 'lookup'.  This is especially convenient if you are at the Library or a Book Sale and you want to check which books are at your Child's Lexile level.

The App is called 'Book Wizard by Scholastic'.

SRI (Reading Lexile) test dates

We were able to do an SRI last week (first week of school) to set a baseline for the students.  The students should read books that have an SRI test available so that they could earn their 4 points every 2 weeks MINIMUM.
