Please contact the school office if your student is going to be absent.

Contacting your students teacher is not enough.  Please call the front office 408-635-2674 ext. 1908 or email Ms. Adriana at aquinonez@musd.org with a detailed reason for his or her absence.

In California, all children are required by law to attend school between the ages of 6 and 18, and must have good attendance records as well. The state defines legally truant as a student who misses school with a combination of the following types of absences without a valid excuse:

  • three unexcused absences and/or

  • three tardies and/or

  • three absences of more than 30 minutes

You'll need to contact school office within two days of your child's return to school or the absences will be recorded as unexcused.

When attending a medical or dental appointment during the school day, please bring a note from the doctor to the attendance office.

After 3 consecutive days of illness a doctor's note will be required.  If your child will be late to school because of an appointment, please request some sort of note or documentation of the appointment with his or her name and date and we can give them an excused Tardy slip.  If they are absent for the entire day, please give us specific symptons if sick, detailed if possible – family emergency, or if you will be out of town.  If you do not call in and your child gets 3 or more Unexcused absences, you will receive an attendance letter home.

Independent Studies

If your student needs to be away from school for an extended period of time, between 3 – 14 days, you may qualify for Independent Studies to ensure they keep up with their learning.  Please note that all Independent Studies request must be submitted at least 10 school days in advance, prior to the requested start date.  This allows our staff and the teacher the necessary time to prepare the contract, gather all assignments and ensure a smooth transition.  Please email Ms. Adriana for more details/information if this is something you are interested in – include in the email your students name(s), teacher name, dates requested and the reason for the Independent Studies Contract.
